Peter Lopez is the outstanding northern Colorado vocalist/guitarist for The Backline.
Having an obsession with music, Peter doesn’t recall a time that he wasn't singing. Studying trumpet, vocals and guitar through school, set the stage for Peter’s
first serious musical endeavor at age 17. Performing on trumpet and electric guitar, Peter was part of a southern California horn band for the next three years.
After relocating to northern California, Peter bought an acoustic guitar and started a new journey, which concentrated on solo work and songwriting. In 1981, Peter
came home to Fort Collins, Colorado, where he has continued his solo career and fronted other ensembles, most recently, the band Ol’ Skool.
Sharing his thoughts on his new musical journey, Peter says, "I am extremely excited and fortunate to find myself surrounded by the fine musicians
in The Backline. It’s a distinct pleasure to pursue my passion in such a setting,
and I look forward to continuing to generate fine music in the years to come."
Kevin McCabe is the lead guitarist and provides solid background vocals for The Backline. As well as this ensemble, Kevin keeps a busy schedule with local choral
groups, musical productions and his church’s contemporary worship band. He has had the opportunity to perform with great artists such as
the world renowned composer and arranger Kirby Shaw, legendary singer Hazel Miller,
and the Loveland Choral Society under the direction of artistic director, Clifford Schultz.
Honing his musical skills since a young age has given Kevin a wide range of experiences. He has been a driving, creative
force in dozens of successful musical groups in his former home location of New York, to Florida, and in recent years, Colorado.
His first group, a duo dubbed The Cowboys, performed Kingston Trio and early Beatles tunes. With The Jaguars, he had performed many
50’s and 60’s classics from those early rock and roll years, such as Buffalo Springfield, Rolling Stones, Dave Clark Five, The Byrds, The
Lovin Spoonful, and, well... you get the picture.
With the support of his wife Cindy and awesome family, Kevin’s goal is to bring heart, soul, technique, and tremendous levels of work ethic and
experience to his art so that the listener becomes emotionally involved.
Dave Nielsen, who delivers bass and vocals, brings a wide variety of stage and studio experience to The Backline. In more than 35 years of defending the low end he’s
appeared on more than a dozen albums and toured from coast to coast, the Great White North to the Gulf of Mexico. With influences that
range from gospel to bop, Dave continues on his quest to fuse melody with thump, always in search of the groove.
Playing keys and trumpet for The Backline is Randy Miotke. Randy originally hails from the city of Chicago, Illinois.
The son of a big band musician, Randy was playing music with his father from a very early age.
Randy’s gigging career has found him playing trumpet with the bands Rare Moment in the mid-seventies and After the Fire in the 80’s.
Keyboard gigs through the 80’s and 90’s included the bands Cosmosis, Skratch, Lonna Miller, and the Usual Suspects.
As well as live performance, Randy has had the joy of engineering, producing and playing on a number of album projects with some great artists and friends over the last 35 years.
Recent musical contributions have included exciting work with Biota, an avant-rock musical collective, as well as the Flatirons Jazz Orchestra.
"Touch every moment with Passion and Love." - Oscar DeZoto
Oscar DeZoto is the drummer/groove master for The Backline. Okay, this isn’t Oscar’s official bio, but I thought you should get to know him. I’ll tell you what I know for certain. Oscar is a high-caliber drummer who has played with many top-notch acts throughout his career. He plays like a steroid-induced metronome with feel and attitude; this dude grooves like there’s no tomorrow. Really. Ready to dance?
The Backline...Wow, what a truly superb band! They played our wedding reception and the crowd rocked into the September night. From the Allman's to Zeppelin, Santana to Sinatra, the Eagles to the Beatles, Bob Marley to Bob Dylan - they, like Neil Young, keep on rockin' in the free world.
Maybe you're thinking of hiring a DJ? Don't. Recorded music is a poor substitute when you can (for around the same price) get Live. Your guests, like ours, will be stoked by the interaction with the five superb musicians (and extremely genial guys) who comprise The Backline.
Their appeal was definitely cross-generational and the joy that they exude while making their music infects the audience and jam packs the dance floor.
We listened to a lot of bands before we found this group. My fiance (now wife) loved the lead vocals and the three part harmonies. I couldn't believe the guitar jams and the power of the engine room...drums and bass. Everyone commented on the tasty trumpet and keyboard work, and agreed that each number was delivered in a way that felt nutritious enough to get to your soul and the soles of your feet.
Their sound is not tricked out (like some others we listened to). What you hear on their website is how they sound...but multiply it exponentially because ot the live vibe.
If you happen to be a club manager/owner, I truly believe that The Backline could improve Your Bottomline. I know we honeymooners would come...and we'd bring friends...
I know this is a bit gushing, but frankly, it deserves to be. Call me if you want to and I'll reiterate my glowing review.
